This morning at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis celebrated Mass and gave a homily on Christ being the foundation of Christian joy (more details, summary video).

Today Pope Francis received in audience an array of people, including:

• extraordinary commissioner of the Municipality of Rome, Francesco Paolo Tronca, and entourage
• president of Alitalia-Sai, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, with his wife
• president of the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC), Raffaele Cantone, with his wife
the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmad Muhammad Al-Tayyib, and entourage (press release, summary video). As well, there is an excellent follow-up interview with the Grand Imam himself (full text). Also, there is a good video interview regarding how importance of this toward calming various tones of Muslim unrest.

Of messages, today Pope Francis sent letter to general secretary of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, on the occasion of the First World Humanitarian Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey (full text). Moreover, Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin spoke at the summit (more details, summary video).
