Serving you the (nearly) daily Pope Francis news

Activating the Culture of Encounter and Sharing

This morning, in the chapel of the governorate, Pope Francis presided at the Eucharistic Celebration for the Corps of Gendarmerie of Vatican City and gave a homily (full text).

He also received several audiences, including participants in a meeting sponsored by the Fondazione Banco Alimentare, or the Food Bank Foundation (full text, full video).

Then in the evening at St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis held a prayer vigil for the Synod of Bishops and gave a homily (more details, full text, full video).

And today, Pope Francis sent a tweet:

The faith is not a gift just for me. Faith is given to be joyfully shared. (link)

In Pope Francis related news:

On the eve of the Ordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family, it appears that a priest, and perhaps synod participant, working in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith came out to a Polish daily newspaper as being homosexual. Fr. Lombardi of the Vatican Press Office has announced that the priest has now been released from his positions at the Vatican, and that further action might be taken. Subsequently, the priest has also had a press conference with his gay partner to respond to the Vatican press statement (more and more details).

On a related front, there is a report that Roman Catholic bishops in Nigeria are promoting “same-sex unions” as “alien to Nigerian culture.” Well the alien, the outcast, and the stranger are the people that Jesus taught to welcome in and care for.

And that’s the Pope Francis news for the day!
